US use of AI assisted military strikes on Iran is accelerating China’s push for technology self reliance, analysts say. The campaign highlighted how artificial intelligence is reshaping modern warfare and raising strategic concerns in Beijing.
Reports by The Wall Street Journal and Reuters said the US Department of Defense deployed AI systems from Anthropic for intelligence analysis, target identification, and battle simulations during operations against Iran.

Analysts said the strikes reinforced China’s long standing strategy to reduce reliance on foreign chips and AI infrastructure.
Chinese experts argued that closer ties between US tech firms and the Pentagon strengthen political support in China for domestic AI models and semiconductors. Beijing also views US military AI partnerships as supply chain and trust risks.
China has responded by expanding domestic chip development and showcasing AI powered military systems, including drones and uncrewed vehicles, underscoring the growing global race to weaponize artificial intelligence.
