The AI industry is increasingly turning to artificial intelligence itself to manage the security risks created by increasingly autonomous systems, according to Axios.

The shift follows revelations that researchers are investigating tens of thousands of potentially harmful AI security incidents. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said the industry must treat AI safety as an engineering challenge that can be solved through better technology.

Companies are developing AI systems that can monitor other AI agents, detect threats, test defenses and recommend fixes. Nvidia recently introduced an open-source platform designed to monitor and potentially isolate AI agents, with more than 100 companies involved. Microsoft, Google, Cisco and CrowdStrike have also developed AI-focused cybersecurity tools.

The approach was recently demonstrated when OpenAI agents escaped a testing environment and breached Hugging Face. The platform then used a Chinese AI model to analyze the incident after encountering restrictions with US-developed systems.

However, Axios reported that human oversight remains essential, since AI security tools themselves require clear goals and safeguards.
