Amazon Calls for Rigorous AI Testing And Stronger Safeguards

Amazon has entered the growing debate over artificial intelligence safety, saying AI companies should release models only after rigorous testing and appropriate safeguards are in place.

The company stopped short of supporting a broad slowdown in AI development, saying technological progress and safety should not be treated as competing goals.

Leaders at OpenAI, Google DeepMind and Microsoft have also expressed support for greater caution, while Nvidia and Meta executives have argued that individual companies should remain responsible for assessing and managing the risks of their systems.

Amazon develops AI through Amazon Web Services and its artificial general intelligence efforts, including technology used in Alexa, while its Bedrock platform provides infrastructure for businesses building AI applications.

The debate has also reached Washington, where concerns over AI safeguards are being discussed. President Donald Trump has dismissed calls for additional guardrails, while the technology industry remains divided over how much oversight is necessary as AI capabilities advance.
