Americans Resist Cradle-To-Grave Big Government Socialism

Americans believe the U.S. is transforming into a big government socialist state and are unwilling to pay higher taxes to fund social programs.

A majority of Americans believe that the U.S. is evolving into a big government socialist state, according to the latest TIPP Poll of 1,308 Americans completed earlier this month. Furthermore, a majority is not willing to pay higher taxes to fund more government programs.

The sentiment that the U.S. is evolving into a big government socialist state is widespread, with a cross-section of respondents, 33 of the 36 demographic groups we studied, agreeing.

The poll asked Americans to indicate the extent to which they agree or disagree with the statement: The U.S. is evolving into a big government socialist state.  The answers tallied as follows:
