Andy Burnham is set to become the United Kingdom's new prime minister after being chosen to lead the governing Labour Party following Keir Starmer's resignation.

According to CNBC, King Charles will formally invite Burnham to form a government before he delivers his first address outlining his priorities.

President Donald Trump welcomed Burnham's support for accelerating oil and gas production in already licensed North Sea fields. Writing on Truth Social, Trump described the resource as "invaluable" and argued it could strengthen Britain's economy.

The report said Burnham, the former Mayor of Greater Manchester, takes office as investors seek greater clarity on his fiscal and economic agenda. Analysts are watching for possible reforms to taxation, public spending and the management of key services such as energy, transport and water.

According to market economists cited by CNBC, uncertainty remains over how Burnham would finance major infrastructure and housing projects while maintaining fiscal discipline and avoiding higher government borrowing.
