A U.S. appeals court has halted a criminal contempt investigation into Trump administration officials over deportation flights carrying Venezuelan migrants, according to CBS News.
The D.C. Circuit ruled that the lower court inquiry, initiated by Judge James Boasberg, was an overreach that intruded into executive authority. The majority said the probe risked interfering with national security and foreign policy decisions, calling it an abuse of discretion.

The case stems from President Donald Trump’s use of the Alien Enemies Act to deport over 200 Venezuelans to El Salvador. Boasberg had earlier ordered officials to turn back flights, later alleging the administration ignored his directive.
The appeals court said continuing the investigation would improperly examine internal executive deliberations. A dissenting judge argued the inquiry was necessary to uphold the rule of law.
The ruling marks a significant legal victory for the Trump administration in an ongoing immigration dispute.
