Apple and Meta have announced a collaboration enabling developers to run Meta’s Muse Spark Open, an 816-billion-parameter open-weight AI model, on high-end Mac Studio computers.

Meta AI chief Alexandr Wang highlighted Apple’s unified memory architecture, which allows the M5 Ultra’s integrated GPU to access up to 512GB per machine. Two Mac Studio systems can be linked to provide the capacity needed to run the model locally.

Designed for complex software engineering and extended tasks, Muse Spark Open is distributed under the Muse Model License. It permits free internal use, but companies generating more than $20 million annually must secure a separate agreement.

A Mac Studio with an M5 Ultra chip and 256GB of memory starts at $10,799, meaning running the full model locally can require multiple machines.

The partnership marks a rare public collaboration between the technology giants. It could strengthen Apple’s position in AI computing while helping Meta expand access to its open-weight models and compete in a market dominated by Nvidia hardware.
