Global technology stocks tumbled Thursday as rising interest rates, expensive valuations and intensifying Chinese competition weakened investor confidence in artificial intelligence investments, according to CNN.
Nasdaq futures fell 1.1% after the index recorded its steepest decline since July. Nvidia-backed data centre provider CoreWeave dropped 6% in premarket trading following a 15.5% plunge Wednesday. Oracle also extended its losses.
Recent US inflation figures have raised concerns that borrowing costs could increase the expense of financing AI infrastructure. Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company also warned of demand challenges linked to higher component prices and economic uncertainty.
Competition from Chinese chipmakers is adding pressure. However, analysts at Jefferies expect upcoming earnings reports to show that demand for AI products remains strong.
