Xiaomi and Huawei have launched new foldable smartphones ahead of Apple’s expected debut of its first foldable iPhone, intensifying competition in a rapidly expanding market.
According to Counterpoint Research, Apple could ship about 6 million foldable iPhones this year and capture roughly 25% of the global market. That share could rise to 40% in 2027. Samsung, which established an early lead in foldable phones, remains Apple’s biggest global competitor.
IDC analyst Francisco Jeronimo told CNBC that the launches were timed deliberately to get products in stores before Apple’s expected announcement.
Both Chinese companies also highlighted internally designed chip technology, signaling that the competition extends beyond phone design to advanced semiconductor development.
