Boeing 737 MAX 10 Approval Delayed Over New Software Issue

Approval of Boeing’s 737 MAX 10 has been delayed amid a newly identified software issue affecting the aircraft’s automated navigation during landing, according to reports. The Federal Aviation Administration is working with Boeing to assess the problem.

Separately, the FAA has issued an airworthiness directive requiring inspections of about 471 Boeing 737 aircraft for potential fuselage cracks. The directive focuses on a structural component known as the bear strap, which supports the fuselage around exit doors.

Boeing said it is working with airlines and regulators on the inspections, which follow procedures previously established for certain 737 Next Generation aircraft. The company said the process is designed to identify cracks before they reach critical dimensions.

The developments come amid continued regulatory scrutiny of Boeing following two fatal 737 MAX crashes in 2018 and 2019 and a 2024 cabin-panel incident involving an Alaska Airlines 737 MAX 9.

The FAA continues to evaluate the software issue with Boeing.
