Dating app operator Bumble is in advanced talks to be acquired by Ithaca Holdings in a potential deal valuing the Austin-based company at approximately $1 billion, according to a report.
Bumble shares surged 50% to $3.81 on Monday, with more than 17.7 million shares traded. Despite the rally, the stock remains about 91% below its February 2021 initial public offering price of $43.
CEO Whitney Wolfe Herd is pursuing a turnaround strategy that includes artificial intelligence-powered features to attract users and revive growth.
However, the potential acquisition still faces hurdles, including board approval, Blackstone’s position and financing terms. A deal could be announced as soon as this week, although Bumble and Ithaca Holdings had not immediately commented on the reported negotiations.
