Charlie Kirk’s family has accused Utah officials and Utah Valley University of serious security failures that allegedly contributed to his assassination in September 2025, according to the Associated Press.
Attorneys for Kirk’s family issued a wrongful death notice, a required step before pursuing a lawsuit under Utah law. The notice alleges officials failed to conduct an adequate risk assessment, secure rooftops and establish a protected perimeter during Kirk’s outdoor event, which drew about 3,000 people.
The university said it would address the notice through its established procedures, while Utah’s attorney general declined to comment on potential litigation.
Tyler Robinson faces aggravated murder charges in Kirk’s death and could receive the death penalty if convicted. Prosecutors have presented surveillance footage, DNA evidence and an alleged handwritten confession as evidence.
