China is targeting emerging technologies including 6G, robotics, quantum computing, brain-computer interfaces and nuclear fusion as potential drivers of economic growth through 2030.
According to the South China Morning Post, Vice Minister of Industry and Information Technology Xin Guobin outlined the strategy as Beijing seeks greater technological self-reliance and industrial upgrading.
The report said 6G development will be a top priority, with China accelerating research, testing and standards ahead of potential commercial deployment.
Beijing is also moving to address problems in the electric vehicle industry, where officials say excessive competition, rushed product launches and safety concerns have become increasingly serious. Regulators are pursuing tighter oversight following incidents involving vehicle technology and emergency door systems.
The strategy comes as China faces weak consumer spending, a prolonged property downturn and industrial overcapacity. Economists cited by the report warned that technological advances alone may not overcome domestic economic weakness without broader institutional reforms.
