The House returns Monday after a five-week recess with a short-term government funding bill at the top of its agenda, according to CBS News. Federal funding expires Sept. 30 without congressional action.
House Republicans previously approved a measure extending funding through Dec. 4, but the Senate rejected that approach. Senators instead passed a bipartisan bill extending funding through Dec. 11.
House GOP leaders plan to fast-track the measure, requiring substantial Democratic support for passage.
Lawmakers will also confront ethics controversies involving several members and could vote to censure Rep. Chuck Edwards of North Carolina.
Republicans are separately preparing a resolution condemning socialism and reaffirming support for President Donald Trump’s SAVE America Act.
The report said two incoming Democrats will narrow the Republican majority to 219-214, leaving GOP leaders with only a two-vote cushion.
