Elon Musk attempted to explore a settlement with OpenAI just days before a high-stakes trial, according to a court filing reported by CNN. The filing said Musk contacted OpenAI President Greg Brockman on April 25 to gauge interest in resolving the dispute.
According to the filing, talks quickly broke down after Brockman suggested both sides drop their claims. Musk allegedly responded with a warning directed at Brockman and CEO Sam Altman.

The report said OpenAI attempted to introduce these messages as evidence, arguing they showed Musk’s intent to target a competitor.
Musk has accused OpenAI of abandoning its nonprofit mission for profit, claiming deception tied to his early funding.
OpenAI, however, argued Musk supported a for-profit model and is now acting out of rivalry following his exit in 2018. A federal judge declined to admit the messages as evidence.
