Tesla CEO Elon Musk has announced plans to wind down Cybertruck production at the company's Texas gigafactory around mid-2027, making room for its Cybercab robotaxi. Musk shared the decision on X, but did not clarify whether Cybertruck manufacturing would move to another facility.
The vehicle attracted a niche following for its distinctive design but faced criticism over specifications, production quality and reliability.
The 2024 model was subject to 11 voluntary recalls, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Reported problems included accelerator pedal defects, software issues and faults that could cause sudden loss of drive power.
Musk maintained that Cybertrucks already sold would remain in service for years.
