Darline Graham was sworn in Tuesday to complete the U.S. Senate term of her late brother, Sen. Lindsey Graham, following her appointment by South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster.
According to the report, she will serve under the name Darline Graham and described the opportunity as "an honor."
The report said Lindsey Graham became his sister's legal guardian when she was 13 and later adopted her so she could receive military benefits.
Although she has never held elected office, she is expected to be a dependable vote for the Senate's Republican majority during her temporary appointment.
The report added that President Donald Trump praised the appointment, while several Republicans, including Rep. Ralph Norman, are considering entering the race.
