South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster has appointed Darline Graham Nordone to temporarily fill the U.S. Senate seat left vacant following the death of her brother, Senator Lindsey Graham.
According to the report, Nordone will serve until Jan. 3, 2027, while the state prepares for a special election to choose a permanent successor.
The report said the appointment followed President Donald Trump's public suggestion that McMaster select Graham's sister after the senator died from an aortic dissection.
According to the report, Republican officials expect a competitive race as new candidates enter the contest.
The eventual Republican nominee will face Democratic candidate Annie Andrews in the November special election to determine who will complete the remainder of Graham's Senate term.
