Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy, a high-profile voice in the “manosphere,” spoke to NPR’s Morning Edition about his political leanings, media backlash, and his vote for Donald Trump.
Portnoy said his support for Trump was “more an indictment of the Democrats” than a full endorsement, criticizing the left for “woke politics” and a lack of blunt honesty. Despite his right-leaning image, he supports abortion rights and is lenient on immigration, stating he could vote for a Democrat if not “demonized” for his views.
Portnoy defended his past controversial statements, including a video where he used the N-word, calling it a mistake he would not repeat. He also condemned antisemitic language used at a Barstool bar.
The self-made millionaire, known for his gambling empire and aggressive persona, says he’s often judged unfairly. “Not everything is as serious as it seems,” he said.
