Paramount CEO David Ellison said CNN’s editorial independence will be preserved following his company’s planned acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery, which includes the cable news network.
Speaking to CNBC, Ellison said CNN remains a powerful news brand and pledged to support its journalists. “Editorial independence will actually be maintained,” he said, adding that the same principle applies to CBS News, which is also owned by Paramount.

Ellison’s comments come as Paramount seeks regulatory approval for the major media deal. Critics and media watchdogs have raised concerns that changes at the company could make news coverage more favorable to President Donald Trump or influence editorial decisions.
Ellison rejected those fears and said the company wants its news divisions to focus on truth and public trust.
He also said Paramount plans to expand streaming distribution for CNN and CBS News, allowing audiences to access their reporting through broadcast, cable, or digital platforms.
