Democratic leaders are increasingly concerned that anti-establishment sentiment within their own party could hurt their chances of winning key congressional races in November, according to Axios.

The report said the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee has suffered three consecutive primary defeats after its preferred candidates lost to progressive challengers in Arizona, California and Maine. Those contests are taking place in battleground districts that could determine control of the House of Representatives.

According to Axios, moderate Democrats argue that left-wing candidates risk alienating swing voters with positions they believe are too far outside the political mainstream. They warn that ideological divisions could undermine the party's broader electoral strategy.

Progressive lawmakers reject that criticism, saying outsider candidates are responding to voter frustration with the political establishment and offer Democrats their strongest opportunity to capitalize on dissatisfaction with Washington.

The report said upcoming primaries in Michigan will provide another major test as Democrats remain divided between centrist and progressive candidates in several closely watched races.
