President Donald Trump’s move to fire Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook has sparked sharp criticism from top congressional Democrats.
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer accused Trump of playing “a dangerous game of Jenga with a key pillar of our economy.” He warned that removing Cook and installing a loyalist would undermine the Fed’s independence and jeopardize Americans’ savings and mortgages.

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries said Trump lacked credible evidence that Cook had done anything wrong.
He highlighted Cook’s role as the first Black woman on the Fed board, adding that if anyone is unfit to hold responsibility, “it is the current occupant of the White House.”
