SpaceX has closed a $40 billion debt financing deal to purchase graphics processing units used in artificial intelligence systems, CEO Elon Musk announced on Sunday.
Musk said the financing would primarily involve callable debt for GPUs, with funds expected to arrive during the first half of 2027.
Bloomberg previously reported that SpaceX was negotiating with banks and investors to finance purchases of Nvidia chips through a special-purpose vehicle designed to protect the company’s investment-grade credit rating.
SpaceX has rapidly expanded its artificial intelligence operations, which it calls “Super Intelligence.” According to its latest earnings release, the business generated $7.56 billion in third-quarter revenue, up from $813 million a year earlier.
Musk also warned that more than 200 AI-focused cloud computing providers could face widespread failures and consolidation as financing becomes harder to secure.
