The two individuals who scaled the antenna of New York City's Empire State Building have been charged with felony reckless endangerment, burglary and other offenses following their dramatic climb earlier this week.
During their arraignment on Thursday, prosecutors said the male climber told investigators that he organized the high-profile stunt as a way to "do something special" before proposing to his girlfriend.
Prosecutors argue the unauthorized climb endangered public safety and exposed the couple and emergency responders to significant risk.
The case has also raised concerns about security at one of New York City's most recognizable landmarks after the pair reportedly bypassed restricted access areas.
