U.S. Action In Venezuela Undermines UN Authority, Warn Experts

The U.S. military operation that captured Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro has intensified concerns that Washington is weakening international norms and accelerating a global arms race, analysts warned.

The strike, ordered by President Donald Trump, was described by critics as one of the most direct U.S. interventions in Latin America in decades.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres said he was deeply alarmed and cautioned that the operation could set a dangerous precedent that undermines international law.

An emergency UN Security Council meeting was convened at Colombia’s request, according to South China Morning Post.

Chinese officials condemned the action and backed the UN process, while analysts argued Beijing may use the crisis to present itself as a defender of multilateralism.

Some warned the episode could further erode confidence in the UN and push countries to strengthen military capabilities independently.
