A new study warns that teenagers using artificial intelligence tools for diet advice may receive dangerously low calorie recommendations. According to CNN, researchers found that AI-generated meal plans suggested teens consume about 700 fewer calories per day than nutrition experts recommend.

The study, published in the journal Frontiers in Nutrition, analyzed responses from five AI models asked to create weight loss meal plans for 15-year-olds.

Researchers compared those plans with guidance from professional dietitians. The report said the AI diets contained major imbalances in protein, fats, and carbohydrates.

Lead researcher Dr. Ayşe Betül Bilen said such calorie deficits could be harmful because adolescents are still growing and require proper nutrition. Experts also warned that poor dietary guidance could contribute to eating disorders or serious health complications.

According to pediatric specialist Dr. Jason Nagata, teens who severely restrict calories may face risks to heart function, brain health, and overall development if poor nutrition continues over time.
