The family of Virginia Giuffre said their “broken hearts have been lifted” following the arrest of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, formerly known as Prince Andrew, according to a statement shared with CBS News.

British authorities arrested Mountbatten-Windsor on suspicion of misconduct in public office amid an investigation linked to newly released Jeffrey Epstein files.

Thames Valley Police said a man in his sixties from Norfolk was taken into custody and that properties in Berkshire and Norfolk were searched.

Giuffre accused Mountbatten-Windsor of sexually assaulting her when she was 17, allegations he denied. He later reached a financial settlement with her in 2022. Giuffre, a U.S. citizen, died by suicide last year.

Her family thanked British police and said the arrest reinforced the principle that no one is above the law. The investigation remains ongoing.
