Fast-moving wildfires have forced the evacuation of more than 60,000 residents in Spokane, Washington, after multiple blazes swept through neighborhoods and destroyed hundreds of structures, according to local authorities.
The report said the Autumn Lane, Fairview and Old Trails fires ignited on Saturday and spread rapidly across dry terrain, driven by strong winds.
The fires crossed the Spokane River and burned through suburban communities, destroying at least 600 structures.
According to officials, about 10,000 customers remained without electricity as utility crews worked to restore damaged transmission lines.
Washington Governor Bob Ferguson declared a state of emergency and coordinated with President Donald Trump to secure federal assistance.
The report said more than 900 firefighters are battling the uncontained blazes, while forecasts of continued hot and dry weather are expected to make containment efforts more difficult in the days ahead.
