Fauci Faces Florida Inquiry Over COVID Response

The investigation was announced shortly after Fauci invoked his Fifth Amendment right during a Senate hearing

Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier (R)

Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier has launched a state investigation into former White House COVID adviser Anthony Fauci, intensifying Republican scrutiny of his handling of the pandemic, according to the report.

The report said the investigation was announced shortly after Fauci invoked his Fifth Amendment right during a Senate hearing, where he declined to answer questions about his role in the federal COVID response.

Uthmeier accused Fauci of lacking candor before Congress and said the public deserves answers about decisions made during the pandemic.

According to the report, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis argued that Fauci's preemptive pardon from former President Joe Biden does not shield him from potential state-level legal action. DeSantis said any case would have to be pursued by a state attorney general or prosecutor under state law.

The report said Senator Rand Paul plans to seek a contempt of Congress vote against Fauci, while Uthmeier indicated he intends to pursue legal action if sufficient evidence supports a case.
