Three former FBI employees who were dismissed after working on investigations involving President Donald Trump have received support from the FBI Agents Association and other organizations in their legal challenge against the administration.
According to the report, the groups filed court briefs arguing that the terminations threaten the bureau's long-standing tradition of political independence.
The report said former agents Michelle Ball, Jamie Garman and Blaire Toleman allege they were dismissed as part of a campaign of retaliation linked to their work on investigations surrounding the 2020 election.
FBI Director Kash Patel has defended the dismissals, accusing the agents of misusing federal law enforcement authority.
Additional legal briefs contended the dismissals violated due process and undermined expectations of an impartial, professional FBI.
According to the report, Justice Connection, an organization of former Justice Department officials, warned that weakening the bureau's independence could erode public trust and increase the risk of politically motivated law enforcement decisions.
