FIFA President Gianni Infantino remains under pressure despite the governing body's apology over its now-withdrawn proposal to sell the commercial and operational rights of the FIFA World Cup, reported by CNN.
UEFA said its threat to boycott FIFA competitions remains in place because FIFA has not guaranteed that similar proposals will not be made again. The European governing body also reaffirmed that it has lost confidence in Infantino's leadership.
Global players' union FIFPRO also rejected FIFA's apology, arguing that withdrawing the proposal did not restore confidence in the organization's governance. The union called the plan a misuse of presidential authority and urged broader reforms.
The report said South American governing body CONMEBOL adopted a more moderate stance, backing dialogue and opposing an extraordinary vote on Infantino's future. FIFA's next presidential election is scheduled for early next year.
