Florida Set To Execute Curtis Wilkie Beasley for 1995 Killing

Florida is scheduled to execute 77-year-old Curtis Wilkie Beasley on Tuesday for the 1995 murder of Carolyn Monfort. Beasley, who was convicted in 1998, is scheduled to receive a lethal injection at 6 p.m. at a state prison.

Investigators found Monfort dead in her Dundee home after she suffered blunt-force trauma from a hammer. Authorities later arrested Beasley in Alabama, where he was working for an electrical company under a different name.

Beasley would become the 16th person executed in Florida this year, according to the supplied report, as the state approaches last year’s total of 19 executions. A final appeal remains pending before the U.S. Supreme Court.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has temporarily paused another scheduled execution over concerns about possible cognitive decline. The governor has issued similar stays in previous years, with those cases later proceeding after evaluations.

Beasley’s scheduled execution remains subject to the pending legal proceedings.
