Former Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov is considering traveling to the United States as early as next week, according to the Kyiv Independent, citing U.S. and Ukrainian officials familiar with the matter.

The potential trip comes shortly after Fedorov publicly called for a legal and practical mechanism to hold elections while Ukraine remains at war with Russia. He also criticized corruption and government inefficiency, saying misuse of defense resources can undermine Ukraine’s military effort.

Fedorov was dismissed by President Volodymyr Zelensky in July after becoming one of the government’s most prominent reformers. Zelensky later offered him other senior roles, including positions focused on military technology, but Fedorov reportedly wanted to return as defense minister.

Ukraine’s parliament approved Yevhen Khmara as the permanent defense minister on Wednesday, effectively closing the door on Fedorov’s return to that position.

The Kyiv Independent reported that Fedorov has maintained contact with SpaceX CEO Elon Musk over potential uses of Starlink technology against Russian ballistic missile systems. His possible U.S. meetings remain unclear.
