Former youth gymnastics coach Sean Gardner was sentenced to 90 years in federal prison on Wednesday after pleading guilty to producing child sexual abuse material by secretly recording young female students in Mississippi.

U.S. District Judge Kristi Johnson imposed the maximum 30-year sentence for each of Gardner’s three federal convictions. He admitted placing hidden cameras in bathrooms at a Purvis gym between December 2017 and April 2018 to film children undressing and using the facilities.

Investigators recovered approximately 50 videos and 400 photographs from his residence. Victim Liberty Raines, who joined Jump’In Gymnastics at age 11, described how the coach’s inappropriate behavior had become normalized.

Civil lawsuits allege that USA Gymnastics and the U.S. Center for SafeSport were alerted to Gardner’s conduct as early as 2017. SafeSport suspended him in 2022.

Authorities in Iowa are also investigating separate allegations involving Gardner’s time at Chow’s gym. He has not been charged in that case.
