Japan Football Association honorary president Kohzo Tashima has formally announced his bid to challenge incumbent Gianni Infantino for the FIFA presidency.
Speaking after a JFA board meeting on Thursday, the 68-year-old FIFA Council member declared that his candidacy is anchored in promoting "integrity, soundness, and high moral standards" across global football governance.
Tashima’s campaign represents the first major challenge to Infantino's decade-long tenure ahead of the March election, positioning Japanese football’s reputation for ethical stewardship as a direct counterweight to recent leadership controversies surrounding the sport's world governing body.
