The US Food and Drug Administration has classified PepsiCo’s voluntary recall of more than 122,000 cases of Gatorade distributed across 37 states. The recall involves undeclared yellow food colorings in certain 28-ounce bottles.

PepsiCo initiated the recall on September 25, citing a labeling error rather than contamination. Affected products include 28-ounce Lemon Lime and Orange Gatorade, along with their Zero variants, covering 15 lot codes.

The FDA classified the action as a Class II recall, meaning exposure could cause temporary or medically reversible health effects in sensitive consumers. People with sensitivities to artificial food dyes, including tartrazine, may face a higher risk of reactions.

Consumers are advised to check bottle lot numbers against the official recall notice and avoid the affected products if they are sensitive to the undeclared dyes.

No illnesses or adverse reactions linked to the recalled products have been publicly reported. PepsiCo has previously said it plans to remove artificial colors from its product portfolio by fall 2026.
