A Georgia judge has sentenced 16-year-old Colt Gray to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the 2024 mass shooting at Apalachee High School that left four people dead and eight others injured.

According to the court proceedings, prosecutors argued Gray carefully planned the attack and sought notoriety by imitating previous mass shooters through deliberate references intended to attract attention within online true crime circles.

The defense urged the court to consider Gray's troubled upbringing and mental health.

His attorney argued the teenager was capable of rehabilitation, while his grandmother testified that medication and treatment had significantly changed his behaviour.

The report said the sentencing follows the earlier conviction of Gray's father, Colin Gray, on multiple charges linked to the case. During the hearing, victims and their families described the lasting emotional impact of the shooting, saying the tragedy continues to leave them with profound grief and trauma.
