General Motors reported a 5.5% year-over-year decline in U.S. vehicle sales for the third quarter, selling 670,974 vehicles. Sales have fallen more than 6% through the first nine months of 2026 compared with the same period last year.
GM is facing weaker demand following a record 2025, with high fuel prices affecting sales of large trucks and SUVs. The company is also seeing reduced enthusiasm for electric vehicles across its lineup.
Despite offering several EV models, GM currently has only one hybrid vehicle, the Corvette, according to the company’s lineup.
GM North American President Duncan Aldred said the company’s business remains strong despite the third-quarter decline. The automaker is also working to manage inventory of some of its top-selling trucks amid changing consumer demand.
