US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth is facing growing criticism from Republicans following the party’s heavy losses in the November midterm elections.

According to CNN, several GOP lawmakers believe Hegseth played a key role in persuading President Donald Trump to launch military action against Iran without a clear exit strategy.

Republican Rep. Thomas Massie plans to initiate an impeachment vote against Hegseth when Congress returns next week. Multiple GOP sources told CNN they expect the motion to pass. Vice President JD Vance also attributed the party’s electoral defeat to the Iran war, although he did not identify anyone responsible.

Trump, however, has defended Hegseth and dismissed suggestions that he could be removed. The president said the defence secretary was performing well and remained committed to keeping him in office.

With Democrats set to control Congress in January, Hegseth could face investigations into the Pentagon’s decisions. He has vowed to defend his record and remain in the administration.
