A flash flood at the Grand Canyon has killed one person and left about 15 others potentially missing, according to National Park Service officials. A 46-year-old man was found dead near Crystal Rapids along the Colorado River.
The flooding began Saturday after storms swept through Bright Angel Canyon and the Phantom Ranch area. The National Park Service said nearly all footbridges across Bright Angel Creek were destroyed, while debris also forced the closure of the Colorado River to boat traffic. At least 62 people were evacuated, with helicopter searches continuing in affected areas.
More storms are possible Monday. The report said additional rain could trigger debris flows, rockfalls and further changes to trails and river conditions.
