President Donald Trump’s emerging agreement with Iran is generating concern among several U.S. allies in the Persian Gulf, according to CNN’s analysis. Gulf leaders reportedly fear the arrangement could strengthen Tehran while raising fresh doubts about Washington’s long-term security commitments in the region.
The report said concerns intensified after the recent U.S.-Iran ceasefire framework and talks in Switzerland.
According to the report, Gulf governments remain uneasy about provisions that could give Iran a role in overseeing commercial traffic through the Strait of Hormuz. Questions have also emerged over a proposed $300 billion reconstruction fund for Iran.
Analysts told CNN that Gulf nations increasingly see the need to strengthen their own defense capabilities while also pursuing pragmatic diplomatic engagement with Tehran, as confidence in U.S. security guarantees continues to weaken.
