Multiple areas inside the Pentagon were placed under lockdown and partial evacuation orders on Thursday after officials detected what was described as a possible air quality issue, according to CNN.

Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell said monitoring systems identified an air quality concern that required precautionary measures while authorities assess its significance. The Department of Defense activated standard safety protocols, including shelter-in-place orders in affected sections of the building.

According to the report, the Pentagon Force Protection Agency's hazardous materials team is leading the response with support from the Arlington County Fire Department. Emergency crews are conducting additional testing that could take several hours.

🚨
A security notice distributed inside the building said personnel may observe response teams operating in the Pentagon's central courtyard and urged occupants not to be alarmed by the heightened activity.

CNN reported that floors two through five in several corridors were locked down. Sources also said some law enforcement personnel were seen wearing gas masks and chemical protective equipment as the investigation continued.
