The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday declined to hear an appeal from former Trump campaign adviser Carter Page, effectively ending his lawsuit against former FBI Director James Comey and other FBI officials over surveillance conducted during the investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election, according to CNN.

Page argued that the FBI improperly obtained a Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) warrant to monitor him. A Justice Department inspector general report later identified significant errors in the warrant application process, the report said.

Lower courts had already dismissed Page’s claims, ruling that the lawsuit was filed beyond the applicable three-year statute of limitations. Page contended that the deadline should have begun when the inspector general’s findings became public in 2019.

The Supreme Court rejected the appeal without comment. Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson did not participate in the case.

According to CNN, Page was never charged with any crime despite being scrutinized because of his contacts with Russian officials during the 2016 campaign period.
