The U.S. House of Representatives voted 220-204 on Tuesday to direct President Donald Trump to end U.S. military involvement in Iran unless Congress authorizes continued action.
It was the third such House vote during the conflict, with seven Republicans joining Democrats in support.
The vote comes as the conflict approaches seven months and becomes an increasingly prominent issue ahead of the November midterm elections.
The Congressional Budget Office estimated that the war had cost more than $38 billion through August 1 and projected monthly costs of $2 billion to $3 billion. It also estimated the conflict could add 0.5 percentage points to inflation in early 2027.
The resolution faces uncertain prospects in the Senate, where a previous effort was reversed after initially passing. None of the earlier House measures reached Trump's desk, and the White House is expected to oppose the latest resolution.
Republicans supporting the measure cited concerns over the duration and costs of the conflict, while other Republicans argued Iran remains a security threat requiring continued U.S. military involvement.
