Mexico’s most-wanted drug trafficker, Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, known as El Mencho, was killed Sunday following a major Mexican military operation in the state of Jalisco, Mexican authorities confirmed.
Oseguera led the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, one of the most violent criminal groups in the world. The raid triggered widespread retaliation, including arson attacks, road blockades, and armed clashes across at least five Mexican states.

U.S. tourists in affected areas were advised by the U.S. State Department to shelter in place. Mexican officials said U.S. agencies provided intelligence support, though the operation was carried out by Mexican forces. Three soldiers were injured. Several cartel members were killed.
President Claudia Sheinbaum praised the operation as violence briefly disrupted airports and forced flight cancellations. The killing comes amid growing pressure from U.S. President Donald Trump for Mexico to crack down harder on drug trafficking.
