Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei has elevated several military and intelligence veterans to senior security positions, signaling a potentially tougher approach toward the United States, according to CNN.
The appointments include former senior security officials with long records of confronting foreign adversaries and suppressing domestic dissent. Mohsen Rezaie was also named national security chief.
Analysts cited by CNN said the reshuffle points toward a more security-focused government, with greater emphasis on military readiness, centralized decision-making and domestic surveillance.
Hossein Taeb, a controversial former intelligence chief sanctioned by the US, has also returned to a senior role overseeing the Basij militia.
Experts said the appointments could reflect efforts to strengthen the regime against both external pressure and potential unrest at home.
