The Trump administration has awarded a contract to build a 528-bed migrant staging facility near Alexandria International Airport in Louisiana to improve the efficiency of family deportations.
According to the report, the center is expected to begin operations as early as August and will serve as a temporary 72-hour processing site before removal flights.
The LaSalle Family Foundation, a nonprofit affiliated with LaSalle Corrections, will manage the facility.
ICE has instructed staff to avoid referring to families as prisoners or detainees and to permit them to wear their own clothing.
Immigration advocates have raised concerns about oversight, pointing to reported deaths and compliance issues at other LaSalle-operated facilities.
Meanwhile, airport officials described the project as a humanitarian effort, while critics warned it could significantly expand the nation's deportation operations.
