More than 660 million barrels of crude oil have moved through the Strait of Hormuz with U.S. military assistance since early May, according to U.S. Central Command.
Navy Captain Tim Hawkins said American forces have helped roughly 1,300 commercial vessels navigate the strategic waterway during that period. The military says multiple shipping routes remain open, despite threats and attacks linked to Iran.
The report said tracking is difficult because vessels often travel at night and wartime conditions create gaps in satellite data.
Security remains contested. Iran says the strait is closed pending U.S. compliance with a June peace agreement, while President Donald Trump has maintained that Hormuz remains open and under American control.
According to the International Maritime Organization, at least 17 commercial ships were attacked in and around the strait during July and August, killing four sailors and injuring more than a dozen.
