Hyundai Motor Group is rapidly expanding its presence in the U.S., emerging as one of the country’s fastest-growing major automakers despite a softer overall market.

According to CNBC, the group’s U.S. market share rose from 8.4% in 2020 to 11.2% last year and 11.8% during the first half of 2026. Its sales have increased about 50% since 2020, making Hyundai the fourth-largest automaker in the U.S.

The company plans to invest $26 billion in the country through 2028, with its Georgia manufacturing complex potentially increasing annual capacity to 700,000 to 800,000 vehicles. Hyundai aims to build at least 80% of the vehicles it sells in America domestically by the end of the decade.

CEO José Muñoz said President Donald Trump’s tariffs are accelerating that localization strategy. Hyundai and Kia are also expanding into pickups, SUVs and electrified vehicles.

The report said Hyundai plans more than 100 vehicle launches and updates globally by 2030, including 58 in North America.
