President Donald Trump said Monday that the US will raise tariffs on Canadian cars, trucks, auto parts and steel to 50% beginning January 1, 2027.
According to the report, Trump made the announcement on Truth Social after trade negotiations with Canada broke down last week. He accused Canada of taking advantage of the United States and said its tariff policies have harmed American farmers.

The planned increase marks another escalation in the growing US-Canada trade dispute. Trump said the higher duties would apply to both large and small vehicles, along with automotive components and steel.
The president did not provide further details on how the tariffs would be implemented. The announcement signals that trade tensions between the two longtime economic partners are likely to intensify further.
